This free 15-minute call gives us a chance to chat and learn more about what you’re hoping to gain from this experience. Having a good connection is an essential component of online therapy or virtual coaching. During our call, we will decide which path (coaching or counseling) would be most beneficial for you and how to move forward on that journey.
*Please note - Counseling/Therapy are terms used interchangeably as they both refer to the process of working with a mental health provider to resolve specific issues.

Once we have determined virtual coaching or online counseling is an appropriate fit for you, we will schedule an appointment. You will receive an email with directions and a link prior to the online session. All you need is an internet connection, a video-enabled device, and a quiet, private space to talk. Olive & Oak utilizes a secure and confidential HIPPA-compliant Telehealth platform.

Once you arrive at the office we will meet for approximately an hour and activities can vary based on the client and concern. Play therapy activities, games, psychoeducation activities/worksheets, specific therapeutic interventions are all options that can be utilized during in person sessions. In person sessions are very effective for building rapport & increasing trust between the client and therapist.

Olive & Oak Wellness is an Out-Of-Network Provider, meaning we do not accept insurance. We believe that treatment decisions should be determined by you and your therapist based on your needs and not a third-party assessment. Insurance companies often impose rigid limitations on treatment options and timeframe.
Although the client is responsible for payment at the time of the service, we can provide you with an invoice, also known as a “Superbill”, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance plan coverage varies widely, so please check with your provider via phone or online for specific coverage and reimbursement rates.
Please be aware that even if your insurance company offers out-of-network benefits, they may still deny your reimbursement and Olive & Oak is not liable for those charges that you have incurred.
Note about confidentiality:
Please note that using health insurance does carry potential risk to confidentiality, privacy or eligibility to obtain health or life insurance in the future. Most insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order for therapy to be covered. Utilizing your health insurance for billing requires Olive & Oak to disclose personal health information such as diagnosis and treatment dates. If you elect to use your health insurance for reimbursement for an out-of-network provider, the insurance company has the right to audit. your mental health records at any time.

In-person and online therapy both offer a variety of benefits. Deciding which option is best depends upon the needs of the individual.
In-person sessions provide the opportunity to meet with a therapist in an office setting which can promote a greater sense of connection. Noticing nonverbal cues such as body language are easier to observe in an in-person setting, as well as not having to be concerned over internet connection and privacy.
Online therapy offers the ease & flexibility of meeting for a session from your home, or other private comfortable setting. Not having to drive to an office decreased the amount of time taken out of your day to get to and from the appointment, allowing it to fit into your schedule more easily than an in-person session.
While both in-person and online therapy have benefits, the decision on which is best for you is dependent upon individual preferences, comfort and specific mental health needs.

Yes, remote therapy has been shown to be effective for treating depression. Remote therapy can be increasingly helpful for individuals with depression who have difficulty leaving their home, live in a more remote area, or have any physical limitations which may make it more challenging to attend therapy in person.
Remote therapy is offered in a variety of ways such as video conferencing, email and instant messaging. Therapeutic approaches such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) for example adapt well to remote sessions when treating clients with depression. It is important if you are struggling with depression to speak with a licensed therapist to determine if remote therapy is the right option for you.
